In the second of our series of "Meet The Team", where we speak to beating heart of H1, our hard working and seemingly unstoppable employees. Next up is Ryan McGee, one of H1's Compliance Officers.
Do you have a nickname around the office?
I don’t have a nickname around the office. The perks of having quite a short first name.
Tea or Coffee?
Usually tea but I’m no stranger to a coffee when I need a wakeup call.
Do you have any unusual skills/Party tricks?
I used to be able to make a beer bottle explode from the bottom of the glass by hitting it with my palm at the top.
Whats your favourite Snack?
Peanut Butter magnums. I like a meat and cheese board too.
Dogs or Cats?
Nothing against cats, but dogs win this for me.
Any plans for your next holiday?
I’m looking to get booked up in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully a beach holiday in Spain or somewhere as the weather in Glasgow is far from ideal.
When did your H1 Journey begin?
I started H1 in October 2017. I had just graduated from university and this has been my first full time job.
Whats your typical day like?
Generally, I come in and myself and my colleague make a plan for the day of what we will be doing. We then do audits on all active staff. We then answer any queries via phone or email. We then start to process any potential candidates that are looking to join our agency.
You're in compliance, why is compliance so important to H1?
Compliance is so important to H1 as we need to ensure that we are placing the correct people into the care environment as they deal with vulnerable adults. We also need to ensure that all of the people that go to our clients are appropriately trained and are fully legal/appropriately registered with governing bodies. Compliance reduces the risk to our colleagues, staff and clients alike.
Whats the best part of your day?
I like the variety of people that I get to deal with on a daily basis and getting to know them and their background. We engage with people from all walks of life and each of them have different types of experience in care which is quite a nice thing to explore and talk about.
What’s the worst?
When things don't go to plan. Unexpected events cropping up which can demand your attention and divert you from the plan that you had made in the morning.
What makes you proud to work at H1?
Placing people in care homes and making sure that they are the correct people to be placed there. As we do deal with vulnerable people at the end of the day and this gives you a sense of job satisfaction because you know that the people you are signing off are going to look after the vulnerable people to the best of their ability.
